Textile Recycling Roundtable: Unraveling the future of fabric recycling
The Michigan Materials Marketplace, a collaborative of Rheaply, NextCycle MI & EGLE, hosted a roundtable discussion focused on textile waste and recovery, exploring how to scale textile recovery strategies, build critical infrastructure, and foster the ecosystems needed to tackle this challenge.
Used textiles are one of the fastest-growing waste streams—but they also represent a largely untapped resource. With the fashion industry responsible for 2-8% of global emissions (over 20% of which come from raw materials) and synthetic fibers projected to make up 73% of global apparel production by 2030, the need for sustainable solutions has never been greater.
Watch the roundtable video to learn and expand knowledge about:
The state and growth of textile waste in the U.S.
Collection, processing and disposition methods for textile recycling
Environmentally friendly waste recovery and manufacturing processes for textiles
Integrating circularity education and community solutions for textile waste diversion
