Michigan Materials Marketplace Textile Recycling Roundtable : Unraveling the future of fabric recycling

Used textiles have emerged as one of the fastest-growing waste streams, yet they remain a largely untapped resource. The fashion industry is responsible for 2-8% of global emissions, of which raw materials represent more than 20%. Beyond that, synthetic fibres in the fashion industry are projected to make up 73% of global apparel production by 2030. Recovering these fabrics and fibers for use in closed-loop systems presents a powerful opportunity to build more sustainable and resilient supply chains.

In our first roundtable discussion of 2025, we invite you to join us to discuss how we can apply successful recovery strategies to textiles—building the necessary infrastructure, practices, and ecosystems to address this mounting challenge.

This roundtable will be hosted by EGLE, NextCycle Michigan, and Rheaply in support of the Michigan Materials Marketplace, which relaunched last year and can help to recover textiles, synthetic fibers, and other waste materials from the fashion and apparel industries.
